Composting Facilities
Avonmonth
The Avonmouth facility employs Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) and has a capacity of 200,000 tonnes of waste per year. It started receiving waste in April 2011, with the official opening in September 2011 following the commissioning period.
These composting facilities are large scale composting
facilities comprising of waste reception, composting, screening,
pasteurisation and maturation halls. The structures are multibay
steel portal frames on reinforced concrete foundations supported
on piles with reinforced concrete power floated piled ground
floor slabs. The waste reception buildings receive incoming
waste for initial sorting/processing prior to distribution to
the main processing area of the building. The composting halls
are the primary facility for processing the waste.
